Home Schooling?

My daughter is planning on Home Schooling her daughter. Does anybody know of any good websites that would help her to plan the curriculum and ones that have work pages that she can print. My grand-daughter is 4 years old right now and is already doing and enjoying Kindergarten work.
To respond to digitalgimpling………Possibly because so many children are coming out of high school without a high school education. Many can’t read or spell properly and are not prepared for moving on to college. These children were taught by someone with a “degree in TEACHING”! I also never stated that my daughter didn’t have a degree in teaching. She does have a degree and my sister (also a teacher for the past 12 years) will be helping her. My daughter also intends to make sure that her daughter is involved in other activities and also a Charter School, to ensure that her daughter will learn socialization skills and also learn to work with others. Home Schooling is not a “Crock” it is an alternative to an education system that doesn’t always work very well.

I don’t understand what makes parents think that they are somehow better qualified to teach their children than, you know, someone with a TEACHING degree. Homeschooling is a crock.

(it says theey exceeded their bamdwidth so try later) It worked when I first clicked on it.
There is also a wonderful booklet from The Natural child project (above) on homeschooling.
Definantly have her explore Homeschool groups(usually through Yahoo groups or the like) in her area. They do field trips and have play groups so the kids can still get the benefit of friendships. Also check the YMCA’s for Homeshool hours at the gymnasiums. They have P.E. time only for homeschoolers at the rec center where I am from.

Best of luck to you and her!!

Homeschooling is a great idea, but it is very hard to do. You need to get your daughter connected with others who homeschool. Then they can work together to find materials, and they can get together so the kids will still develop the social skills needed.

Do a search for web sites for home schooling. Better yet look in your area for other women that home school and work with them.
I have two daughters that are home schooling and it was the best thing in the world for them.
Your daughter might check with Mother Seaton Home school for advice and etc etc. they are in west virigina . I am sure if she did a search . She would find it.

That’s fantastic. My voice teacher home schools her kids and she says it’s fantastic.Where I come from, the school system is not that great, I am all for homeschooling. I have to tutor kids from public schools in order to teach what is not being taught in the classroom. Anyway, there are coops for homeschoolers to get together with other homeschooled children. I’m sure in the town or city you live in. Inquire from the Chamber of Commerce in your state and they can let you know . Also, I teach piano as well as singing to homeschoolers, and they learn a lot more than they do in a school setting. The test scores are much more higher, which is fantastic. I teach university level and I’ve noticed that homeschoolers very much excel in a lot of subjects, than most of those who attended public and private schools which is great!:O) After all learning starts at home. :O) Also, the socialization for homeschoolers is great, in my opinion. :O) Most people think that they have no social life, and that’s wrong. That’s why there is coop with other homeschoolers.
