What are the benefits of Home Schooling? I am in Australia and they dont have it here unless its for a reason, illness, disability etc etc.
I would think that going to a school would be of more benefit to the child, to be educated by professional educaters, and for social skills.
I know just in general, in my own life that I wouldnt have time to do it properly, with all the other day to day things that go on.
Just asking for opinions, as I know nothing about it?
How can you keep a close eye on how they are doing, if they only have a yearly exam?
What happens if they fall behind, do you have to wait until the end of the year to find out?
As I said………I’m merely asking questions, its not a choice/ option in Aust.
Wow, the schools over here are absolutely nothing like the way you describe the ones in America!

this is my first year doing home schooling and i really like it . but lately i cant get motivated to finish my year. i started two months behind of the regular public schools and my parents are wondering why im not done. i think the reason is because i dont want to do my work. im not lazy i ride horses every day and i am very involved in the rodeo world. i just cant seem to get into my work with school.

Home schooling has been around for quite some time now. The debate about it’s overall effectiveness has been going on for just as long. Recently however, home schooling has been gaining more and more advocates in support of it.

For the longest time, home schooling has been viewed with a somewhat contemptuous attitude by many. They’re under the misguided notion that this type of schooling is for weirdoes and social misfits.

Home schooling has traditionally been for those children who suffer from some kind of condition or whose current circumstances don’t allow them to attend regular school. However, more and more parents are choosing to home school their children because they believe it to be a more beneficial alternative to traditional schools.

There are a lot of advantages to be taken from this type of schooling.

Home schooling allows a child be taught in a more individualized way. The child will not have to compete with several other students for the time and attention of the teacher. Their parent is their teacher and the one-on-one teaching that the child receives will increase the quality of learning.

The nature of this schooling allows for an incredible amount of flexibility and freedom in regards to learning. The lessons and curriculum to be undertaken can be custom made to suit the particular educational needs of the child.

The child can also learn at their own pace, seeing as there’s no set schedule that must be followed. A child can take as much time as they need to learn something without being pressured, or they can go as quickly as they can, learning things that would normally take a much longer time to cover in a classroom.

In many cases home schooling will enforce an inherent love of learning and will strengthen the child abilities to learn on their own. These skill will become a valuable asset throughout their lives.

Many parents home school their kids in order to instill moral values that can’t be sufficiently achieved in traditional schools. This is especially true if they feel that the child is easily influenced and the schools in the area are a particularly bad influence.

Home schooling helps to cultivate family ties. The time that the family spend together teaching and learning helps to strengthen family bonds.

Thanks to more advanced technology and in particular the internet, home schooling has become even more effective. The internet is a vast source of knowledge and you can find a plethora of home schooling resources like sample curriculums, lesson plans, and all sorts of guides.

The greatest criticism aimed at home schooling is that it might hamper the child’s social growth. Home schooled kids tend to be more isolated and many feel that this is harmful.

This isn’t necessarily the case though, as studies have shown that many home schooled adults have excellent social skills and are living happy, meaningful lives.

These studies also show that home schooled individuals tend to do better academically than traditionally schooled individuals.

Despite the seemingly many benefits of home schooling, it isn’t for everyone. Parents should take in mind several considerations before taking the plunge.

Home schooling takes a tremendous amount of time and effort on the part of the parents.

Teaching will take up most of the teaching parent’s day, so this means that the they will most likely not have the time to work. The family must be able to cope with this situation. This is especially difficult for single parents.

Also, the parent must be sure that they will be able teach their child properly and handle all the possible problems and responsibilities that come with being home schooled.

Home schooling, when done right can have very positive results. However, getting it wrong can result in absolute disaster. Ultimately, it’s up to the parents to assess their child and decide if home schooling is the right choice for them.

I have a cousin who is autistic and his mom home schools him but I want to know what other reasons are for parents want to home school their kids?

Education grooms students with well-informed knowledge to build their future careers. The methods adopted may be different, but the goal is the same. While traditional schooling allows the child to learn among peers and be influenced within their same age group, home schooling allows the child to learn at his or her own pace. Unfortunately, today most of the traditional schools are blamed that they expect every child to have the same attitude and move at the same pace with others.

Home schooling on the other hand, allows the parent and child to relax in the lap of their own home environment and the child is made to learn at a comfortable pace. There is a growing trend that favors home schooling. Traditional schools work within a fixed time slot, which robs both parent and child with very little time to devote to them everyday. In addition to the timings of the traditional school, their setup of each subject to learn is addressed and limited to a certain time frame, which may or may not be enough for every child to grasp the taught subject.

Home schooling, on the other hand enables the parent to fix a flexible schedule to teach each day. This gives the child the required rest and ample of time to learn and be part of a schedule that is preferred and not imposed. Probably one favorable point in traditional schooling is that it helps the child to get disciplined within the imposed time slot and schedule.

The parent who chooses to home school the child is also at liberty to pick and choose the materials or subjects, in which the child has a natural aptitude and interest. This is not so with traditional schools. The traditional school management imposes everything from the books to the stationery, the syllabus to timetable etc. The home school can be customized. The main element in favor of home schooling is the fact that the parent is able to devote individual attention to the child and bring out the best in him or her.

In a traditional school, the ratio of teacher to students is 1:30, 40 or 50. This prevents the teacher to address the difficulty of each child within the thirty or forty minute time slot allotted to each subject. In the case of home schooling, if you are teaching the child a particular topic, like quadratic equations in math, and the child cannot grasp the examples and application very easily, you could restructure the time slot from half an hour of learning to one hour.

In home schooling, to impart teaching can be handled by both parents, even while on a family outing. To educate becomes an extended family activity in this way. However, in the case of traditional schools, there is no time for family bonding during school hours. While in home schooling, the child is monitored and kept away from negative peer influences. It is not possible to do so in a traditional school.

Home schooling environment makes the child confident to learn easily, besides possessing talent and knowledge. There is no competition and hence no fear, as may be the case with many children, who drop out of traditional schools. In the traditional schools, to make comparisons among children are not ruled out. However, one can argue to favor traditional schools, since children are helped to cope up early in life to face competition and pressures in the traditional school environment.

To home school your child or not is a personal choice, but the way you guide should give direction to the growth of the child both in education and health. It is not so much the matter of convenience, a parent should look into. All the above matter would help you to make a decision to choose home schooling or traditional schooling.
